Alboricah Rathupetsane

Alboricah Tokologo Rathupetsane is a 28-year-old writer from South Africa whose passions are writing and art, which she uses to express her feelings and ideas. Alboricah grew up in a rural village in the province of Limpopo, South Africa, and currently lives and works in Port Elizabeth.

She studied mechanical engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand in Joburg. She also has two self-published novels that are part of a sci-fi series she started in high school (using the pen name Alboricah Rathup). She wants to republish and launch these properly when she has finished writing the series. She is also thinking of writing an anthology – short stories are quite fun, too.

"I had the character long before I had any kind of story"

"The story was very personal to me, which made it both difficult and easy to write. But I would say the most challenging part was not getting carried away with words and making it fit within the 5 000 word limit." Alboricah Tokologo Rathupetsane’s short story has been shortlisted for the Commonwealth Short Story Prize.
