Barbara Duriau

I am Belgian, 49 years old. I studied graphic design. In 1998 I went around the world, backpacking. That's where it all started. My motto: What is life like elsewhere? How do people live on the other side of the world?

Then I worked for Tintin for almost 20 years, as a graphic designer. Soon after having been put in charge of the Brussels Airlines project to design the Airbus A320 in the colours of its hero Tintin, I then needed new adventures and challenges. I was living in Brussels. I decided to leave everything behind and move to Amsterdam for new experiences. That's where View from window was born, in the city of all possibilities. Today I live between Brussels and Amsterdam.

From Durban to Kyiv: International views during these times

"We were all stuck at home. From there I realised that we were going to be in lockdown, at home with a single solitary view from our window for many long weeks, maybe months." The View from my window Facebook group publishes thousands of photographs from members' homes, from São Paulo, to Durban, to New York. Menán van Heerden chats to Belgian founder Barbara Duriau.
